Raptor with a Vision

Updated: Mar 14, 2019

Every Head Villain in Power Rangers is different. Sometimes the villains have a different theme than the heroes, but other times they fit well within the series theme. Like Mesogog for example. He's the perfect villain for Dino Thunder. In the first episode Conner briefly compares Tommy to Batman. If Mesogog was a Batman Villain he'd be Two-face. Or if you don't know as much about Batman, you can consider him like Jekyl & Hide. Similar to that classic tale this all started with an experiment gone horribly wrong. Anton Mercer tests his Dino DNA formula on himself and creates a deadly alter ego. Mesogog is ruthless and very determined to achieve his goal; To bring Earth back to the age of the Dinosaurs. It was a niece change in my opinion for the Villain to have a more personal goal in this series. Mesogog's lair is on a hidden island protected by his Invisiportals. The invisiportals are quite unpredictable, and constantly appear and disappear. Mesogog is shown to be a impressive fighter but he fights mainly hand to hand. However he can fire mind beams from his skull. He doesn't use them often, so it's possible they might be limited in power.

Mesogog was obsessed with the Dino Gems. He was determined to get their powers for himself, each time one slipped from his grasp;he became angrier and angrier. Mesogog hates his alter ego and refers to him as a fool. He also reffered to Lothor in similar terms. Mesogog has a powerful brain and likes to really think out every situation. Mesogog has two powerful machines at his command. The Geno Randomiser, and The Hydro-Regenerator. The Geno Randomiser creates the monsters by mixing together different genes and chemicals. The Hydro-Regenrator simulates a powerful storm which makes the monsters grow. Zeltrax serves Mesogog out of a sense of duty believing he owes him after he saved him from an experiment he failed at as Terence Smith (his human identity.) The full story about Elsa's corruption was never revealed. However she seems loyal to him at first. Zeltrax showed signs of having feelings for Elsa and She showed signs of having feelings for their master. However Mesogog himself was dedicated to his vision only. The more powerful Mesogog became, the weaker Anton became; creating a powerful inner struggle. After Trent was finally freed from the White Gem's curse by his adopted father; He promised to keep his secret. The pressure was high as the Power of Five Rangers working together caused more of his plans to fail. Then he loses Zeltrax; who comes back as an enemy, and Elsa starts to fear for her own life. However she did not hesitate when she finally found an opportunity to expose Mesogog. Using the Red Ruby Dragon card she stole from the Blue Ranger. Mesogog was willing to achieve his goal however possible and he accepted Trent's bargain in the finale though he believed Anton was just about ready to bite the dust. Mesogog's true form revealed in the final fight was pretty nasty looking and was very powerful. But not strong enough to defeat the Power Rangers. Mesogog is a truly unique evil character. He thought highly of himself to be sure but he didn't get caught up in ego and I admire the thought process he put into his bigger projects. Also I must say I really loved watching Mesogog and Lothor fight during "Thunder Storm." Both characters were played by Latham Gaines. Watch out if you have to face Mesogog in battle!
